40

Dear Sophia and Christopher,

Daddy loves you so much. What a joy it is to watch you grow more kind, more curious and brave with each passing day. I am blessed to be able to call your mother, my wife, and best friend. I am blessed to be able to call you my son and daughter. I feel so favored.

Today is a big milestone for me. I turn 40 years old and have chosen to answer the call to a new adventure. And as I reflect on last three decades of my life, I am seeing how God has been preparing me for this moment, this future.

I am in awe of the depth and beauty of God’s design of me and how He always calls me by name. I see the greatness of His faithfulness and the richness of His relentless Love.

I also see how in the darkest moment, the dark nights of the soul, He was there with me. He wept with me. He never left me. He was present.

I also see how He is redeeming my sorrows and pains from those moments into beautiful expressions of His love, goodness, and faithfulness. These beautiful stories are helping people wake up from their slumber, experience His Love and live their fullest lives.

This remembrance emboldens and encourages me. It builds up the courage and faith to step across the threshold from the old to the new. I am singing a new song.

“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord… I take joy in doing your will, my God, for the instructions are written on my heart.” – Psalm 40

I see God is at work and I want to be a part of it.

“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Don’t you see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:19

And so I pray daily,

“Father, give me the eyes to see, the ears to hear,
give me hands of compassion, and feet towards justice.

Fill my heart with your passions, my mind with your promises,
my soul with your peace, and this place with your presence.

And in the overflow of being your Beloved,
may I answer the call to create the beautiful future,
where everyone awakens from their slumber
to see and receive the glorious beauty of your Love.

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen.”

My hope and intention are that I can model to you, my sweet Sophia and Christopher, how beautiful life can be when we learn to recognize the voice of the CALLER and respond to His Callings. My hope is that you will be my witness and write your own book of testimonies of His Goodness, His Faithfulness, and His perfect Love.

Let’s be brave and answer the call to create the beautiful future together!

Love, Dad.
